Sentient species colour experimentation

Image
Now that I've got the anatomy of the sentient species down, the next step was to figure out their colours and possible markings. I took inspiration from real life reptiles to get some realistic markings, with some changes to some of the colours to make them more unique. I'm not sure any of these are quite right, but I think 3, 6 and 7 are getting along the right lines.

Basic village building concept

This is a sketch I did for a lineart workshop of a village building concept. I wanted to use shapes in the architecture that were inspired by the dragons. I think this would be one of the more important buildings, I don't think regular buildings will have as much sculpted architecture like this one does.

Sentient species reworking

Here is the rework for my sentient lizard species based on critiques from my tutors. My main aim for these were getting the right balance between realism and style, which I think I've finally got. The main areas that needed work were the length of the arms, the leg, and the neck, which I think I have rectified with this design. I also figured out how the head would look from the front and the side as well.   After getting the general anatomy of the species down, I then created the male and female base for the species. I based their differences on some real life reptiles - females tend to be larger in size in order to lay eggs, while the males are smaller but stockier. I also made the head spikes on the males larger.

Dragon species colour experimentation pt 2

After talking with Simon, I decided it would be best to try out some different colour combinations, this time on the fullbody dragon sketch. I still like the blue, white and orange on the best, but the other could be used for the dragon species variations.
