Toolkit 1 submission: Life drawing and character design

Reflective Statement At the beginning of the year, I had pretty much no experience drawing human figures. Although we weren't able to do as much life drawing this year due to covid, I still think I have come leaps and bounds with my life drawing skills, actually being able to capture the human form in a relatively realistic way towards the end of the year. I will definately do more life drawing over the summer, especially the male form as a lot of the models were female, so I feel like I need to practice males to balance that out. Character design has always been something I quite enjoyed, and the classes with Justin were no different. I really enjoyed expanding my knowledge of it, along with learning some new techniques as well. I will also be doing more character design stuff over the summer to really hone my skills in preparation for the second year. Toolkit 1 Submission: 2D animation

2D Animation Reflective Statement At the beginning of the year, I knew very little about animating and about the animation principles. I had dabbled a little in animation, but not very much. Now I feel I have a good grasp of both 2d animation and of animation principles, even though i wasn't able to complete as many of the tutorials as I'd have liked. I needed to be more careful with the files for the lessons, as I lost quite a few through moving from campus and home, which meant I had to re do a few lessons along the way. Again, I under prioritised this part of toolkit, prioritising other projects over it, which meant I didn't have enough time to finish them all.  Animation posts https://cerysfordcaa.blogspot.com/2020/11/timing-and-spacing-animation.html  https://cerysfordcaa.blogspot.com/2020/11/bouncing-ball-animations.html https://cerysfordcaa.blogspot.com/2021/06/animate-lesson-4-characters.html  https://cerysfordcaa.blogspot.com/2021/06/animate-lesson-5-walk-s...

Toolkit 1 Submission: Autodesk Maya and Supporting software

Autodesk Maya and supporting software Reflective statement At the beginning of the year, I absolutely hated Maya. I found the software extremely overwhelming and diffcult to wrap my head around at first, but over the year, I came to understand it a whole lot better and actually came to enjoy some of it. I would say I've come a long way with what I've learned with Maya, although i still have a long way to go. I think the biggest issue I had with this project was under prioritising it, prioritising my other projects over it throughout the year, which meant I had less time to actually finish all the tutorials.  When it comes to the supporting software such as adobe photoshop, premier pro, after effects etc. I feel I've come a long way with them as well, although I don't have a lot of what I did from those tutorials saved. I knew some of the software beforehand (photoshop, premier pro, a little after effects) and now I have a better understanding of those softwares, as wel...

Animate lesson 9: Lip Sync (Start)

Image
Here is the start of the adobe animate lesson 9, which was about lip sync. this was the start of my plotting out of the sounds in the clip and the mouth movements to match.

Animate lesson 7: Anticipation

Image
Here is the result of the adobe animate lesson 7, which was all about anticipation. For this one, we had to animate a person throwing a ball. The first one is with anticipation, and the second is without.

Animate lesson 5: Walk (start)

Here is the beginning of lesson 5 of adobe animate, which is a walk cycle.

Animate lesson 4: Characters

Image
Here is the result of the adobe animate lesson 4, where we had to take the bouncing ball animation and turn them into three characters. I decided to do a Ram, a Alien and a Dragon/Demon.

Intro to Maya final render

I didn't have access to the files used during the lighting portion of the tutorial, so I tried to find similar images that matched the ones used in the tutorial as much as possible.  Files used: Wood texture- https://jooinn.com/images/wood-texture-141.jpg HDR image- https://hdrihaven.com/hdri/?c=indoor&h=empty_warehouse_01

Fantastic Voyage reflective statement

Fantastic voyage has probably been the hardest project of the entire year for me, due to the workload and events outside of university that I had no control over. Had these events not happened, I think I may have been able to finish the project on time. Despite that, I learnt quite a lot with this project, especially how to create a fully fledged concept based on a brief that a client gives us.  I think my biggest achievement of this project was learning how to draw dogs and wolves decently for it, as I had very little experience drawing canines prior, but by the end of it I was able to draw them in a way that looked good. I think my downfall with the project was that I was just too ambitious with what I expected to achieve within the given timeframe. I probably could have still done the subject of natural vs. artificial selection, but in a way that was much more achievable in the timeframe and with my current skillset. In the future, I will look at what I can achieve ...

basic dog model (fantastic voyage)

Image
This is a basic dog model I did, intending it to be a bit of practice for when I do the proper dog models, and also for use in the pre vis. It's definitely far from perfect and I've got a lot to improve on still, but I don't think its too bad for my first quadruped.

Other fantastic voyage orthographs

Image
Here we have some of the other objects in my animation that needed orthographs. These ones were relatively easy to do, as none of the are really organic. I completed these last week.
